I am Nica Portavia, I am a dancer, a movement researcher and my main practice are Contact Improvisation Material for the Spine and Improvisation.
Dancing is my life and my job, I feel the big privilege that I have sharing my passion and my understanding of those dancing practices.
I thaught and I teach in different parts of Europe, South America, US.
Since 2022 I am collaborating with Karen Nelson traveling and co-teaching our project Faking It with Gravity and touring with our performance Smaller collaborating with musicians and performers
as Scott Smith and Sonny Boiardi a celebration of Steve Paxton's life.
Contact Improvisation seems to me a big metaphor of life. We as humans, we are made by relations and Contact Improvisation is for me the study and the practice of all relations, within ourselves,
the others and what is surrounding us.
I am interested into research these constant relations that are always changing connected to this world that is changing so fast, and I feel that CI is giving us precious tools to navigate in a
fast shifting unimaginable present and future.
Through the study and the practice of sensations, physicality perceptions and movement we dance, exploring the smallest impact, and how the smallest can change all system, we explore falling, we
explore being supported by the spherical space and the planet earth, we will bring the principals of CI and discover many ways to research what is moving us, what we are cultivating practicing
togheter. Which changes can we practice while we move together, practicing CI as a way to practice cooperation and solidarity?
